How it works

From hello to your first day.

A short, personal process. A person, not a system, reads every application.

  1. 1. Apply

Choose an opportunity, or send a general application if you’d like us to suggest one. It takes about ten minutes, and you don’t need a résumé. Straight away you get an email with a reference and a private link to your application.

  2. 2. We read it

The lead for that program reads your application, usually within two weeks. If we have a question, we write to you through your application page and by email, and you can reply there.

  3. 3. A conversation

If it looks like a fit, we set up a short call or video call. It’s a chance for you to ask questions too.

  4. 4. Checks, if the role needs them

Roles with young people or home visits need a background check. We explain what it involves and arrange it with you, only once we’ve both decided to go ahead.

  5. 5. Welcome

An orientation with the program lead, what you need to get started, and a named person to ask. Your application page shows “Welcome aboard”.

Ages

Most roles are for people 18 and older. Some, marked “Ages 16+”, welcome 16- and 17-year-olds with a parent’s or guardian’s consent. We don’t take volunteers under 16.

If it isn’t the right time

Sometimes we have more volunteers than places. If we can’t offer you a role, we’ll say so, and with your permission keep your details for the next opportunity that fits.
